Depending on what answers will be provided in the Professional Client's survey, we will then ask for documents such as a history of appropriate volumes of financial market transactions over the last four quarters, details of your position and how this has helped you to acquire sufficient knowledge and experience, statements from savings accounts, asset portfolios and/or trading accounts with a value > 500,000 EUR.
The verification process is relatively fast - if all documents are provided straight away, it usually takes less than 24 hours.
If one of the criteria confirming your professional client status is a trading condition in the last 4 quarters then your application may be rejected. In the case that the other two conditions are fulfilled, then the professional client status can be granted. However, please note that the continuity of 4 quarters is required.
Unfortunately not because one of the conditions specified in Directive 2014/65/EU requires that the client works or has worked in the financial sector for at least one year holding a professional position, which requires knowledge of carrying out transactions in financial instruments or brokerage services. Studies of economic nature are therefore not a justification for meeting this requirement, as they do not relate to a practical approach.
Significant size trading is considered a trade of 10,000 USD in nominal value for shares, 25,000 USD for Indices and commodities and 50,000 USD for the Forex market (or equivalent in the relevant local currency).
Based on Decision 2018/796 taken by ESMA and later adopted by the Cypriot Regulatory Authority (CySEC), a negative balance protection is designed to protect customers in exceptional circumstances when a change in the price of the underlying is large and sudden enough to prevent the CFD provider from closing out the positions as required by the margin close-out protection. However, this protection applies to retail customers only.
